Sometimes we can get so caught up in the recovery process that it consumes our life. Maintaining balance is important so that we don't burn out.
What do you do to have fun? Are you able to?

A pastor from many years ago used to say "You need to have one hour of fun every day."
If you're commuting an hour to and from work, working 8 - 10 hours a day, cooking, doing laundry, caring for elderly parents, cutting the grass, etc. I think that is a hard prescription to fill, but nonetheless good advice.
And I think you've stumbled into the part of the cause of my husband's addiction. He was only valued as a human being when he "did" something. As a result, he became a human doing, rather than a human being.
He never allowed himself or me to have fun until all of our work was done. He would never plan or participate in a family outing, never involve us in his "projects" or acknowledge the need for FUN in life. I think this initiated and drove his addiction.
Having fun is a necessary and healthy part of life.
