You gave up a lot in your life to indulge in your addiction. When you stop incorrectly and fail, you affirm your mind that addiction is necessary in your life and is more important than your reason(s) to stop. For example, when someone wants to be healthier and want to save time by stopping, but fails to stop, he affirms his mind that his addiction is more important than his being healthier or saving time. Also if you tried to stop ten times and failed ten times, not only did you affirm your mind ten times that your addiction is more important than your reason(s) for stopping, you make it more difficult for your next attempt to stop. That is one of the reason the sooner you correctly stop the better. You don’t do me or anybody else a favor by stopping your addiction. Overcoming an addiction is one of the best things you can do for yourself if not the most.

First Step To Overcome Sex Addiction
Stress, diseases, brain chemicals, bad childhood, bad environment, bad parents, addicted personality. If you blame all or any of these for the cause of your addiction and you want to stop for good, forget about it. None of the listed above are the cause of your addiction. If you want to know who causes your addiction, take a look in the mirror. Your addiction began with your choices, it continued on because of your choices and only your choices can overcome it. If you have tried many times and failed, don’t give up there is hope for you. You can overcome your addiction by gaining the knowledge on how to stop correctly and moving on with your life instead of being stuck in an addictive cycle. First step to overcome addiction is taking full responsibility for your addiction. Don’t blame others, stress, or diseases. You will have a good excuse to continue to indulge in your self destructive addiction as long as you don’t take full responsibility for your addiction.

Jay, good post. I agree with you.

An addict has to quite because they (the addict) wants to quit not because anyone else wants them to or forces them to. Addiction is not something that will power alone can get rid of it, it is a process.

Most sex addicts deny their addiction. Most professionals really don't understand sex addiction, let alone helping people stop their sex addictions. Sex addiction is different than other addictions because when you stop a substance addiction you feel like somthing is being taken from you but when you try to stop sex addiction it feels like you are not allowed to do somthing...I personally know this because I was once a sex addict.  I overcame four addictions myself including sex addiction over 15 years ago, now i help others.  Here is the link to my UPDATED webpage for you to help understand sex addiction and put you on the right path to stop your sex addiction and stay stopped successfully.  http://www.addictioncontrol.blogspot.com

Great video about addiction by Dr. Gabor. We don't believe everything he says, like all addictions start from a poor childhood but he has some tremendous insight about addiction. We have seen this same proof with our clients. Sexual addiction affects the brain just like any other drug. Enjoy!
