A few weeks ago, I got to hear Steve and Annie Chapman speaking about marriage.  Referencing 1 Peter 5:8, they emphasized the point that Satan is not just out to scratch us up a bit.  He is out for the kill.  The image was so compelling that I just had to write about it, and hope it is suitable to share here.

               Roaring Lion

A lion, strong, teeth sharp and long,
Is prowling o'er the earth.
The snares he sets seem subtle threats.
He watchs them with mirth.

The wary try to keep an eye
Upon the lion's schemes,
And spy his traps, before one snaps
And brings forth blood in streams.

The heedless, though, romp to and fro,
And do not spot the pit.
Too late they grasp, with frantic clasp,
But tumble into it.

The prideful think they'll walk the brink,
The hungry lion tease,
Then bellow cries of stark surprise
When netted with great ease.

Not just with paws of razor claws,
The lion rends his prey,
But teeth, like knives, devour lives
Of those who go astray.

It may be hard to hold our guard
With never-ending zeal,
But, careless, we will surely be
The roaring lion's meal.
