I am praying and fasting this week and I am asking others to join us. I messed up really badly due to addiction and I am in a lot of trouble. Those in power over our family will be making a decision this week. I have been stupid thoughtless and this has put my family at great risk.

Please pray that Jesus will move the heart of those in authority to lift this crushing rock from our heads and that Jesus will restore us.

We trust him what ever the path but he is also able to save from the darkest pit.
We are crying out for mercy.

Do you want to share what you're doing now to treat your addiction?  You've mentioned prayer and fasting, which are certainly important tools in our relationship with God.  But prayer and fasting won't fix a broken leg.  We need the help of a physician to mend our bodies.  In the same way, prayer and fasting won't fix an addiction.  We need to do hard and scary psychological work to get to mend our hearts and minds so that it becomes possible for us to let go of the addictive behavior.

I spent many, many years praying and fasting about my addiction: using for the last time, repenting, horrified by what I had done, passionate about never doing it again.  And then coming right back to it in a day or a week or a month or 3 months.

Prayer and sincere repentance are wonderful things, but they stopped me from acting out just about as well as they would have fixed a broken bone.  I got nowhere until I got serious about counseling and 12-step, about getting a sponsor and working the steps, about getting honest and open with others in daily life, about really facing the fears that paralyzed me - fears so deep I didn't know they were there - and daring to look honestly at myself.  From that point, my life began to change.

So may the authorities do the right thing to protect your family!  But may you also do the right thing to address your behavior which has led to their actions.  What are you doing now?  What more can you do?
