I'm new here and struggling with my addiction to masturbation. I was wondering if anyone had any tips. What do you do to keep your mind off of fantasy? What do you do when you're close to giving in? I'm desperate. I want to stop. I don't want this to control me anymore. Please pray for me. God bless you. Thanks for reading.

the thing that helps me more than anything is reading the bible. honestly, when i am really close to giving in, i don't always do this. i know it helps me, so why i don't is a mystery. anyway, when i am at work, i try to talk to other people online who share my struggle and that try to encourage me as well as going to sites like this. i wish you well my dear sister. god's grace is sufficent and in his great mercy, you can gain freedom from this. just don't ever give up.

Hello, Faith_inthedarkness.

People who overcome m often do so by filling their lives with other things, healthy things, challenging things that claim their energy, so that little energy is left to waste in m.  Do you study diligently as though you were working a 40+ hour week?  How much spare time do you have?  Do you spend it with people, or alone?  Do you have a hobby, an avocation?  Do you avoid entertainments that might stimulate the wrong kinds of interests?  Do you consciously submit every cranny of your life to the greater glory of Christ?  Think in terms, not only of what to do in the moment when temptation presents itself, but also of making any necessary changes in your total lifestyle so that there will be less temptation.

From your other posts it sounds like working through harmful past experiences will also be part of your task.  Bring all the details to God in prayer.  A good place to start is simply to pause in the presence of God and recollect exactly what happened, with God silently looking on and understanding.  When ready, you can tell God everything, and how you feel about it, without asking specifically for any particular response.  Just be honest with yourself before him, and with him.

You sound very depressed by your issue but I know there is help for you. This is just my opinion, but the best resolution to this problem is joining an SAA group. You will be able to talk to people with the same problem. You will follow the 12 step program just like if you were in AA. The success rate is very high. If you try to stop on your own, you are more likely to fail than succeed. I pray for your success. If you want to know more the address is: http://www.sexaa.org/. Its anonymous and non-profit.
