I've learned in my fight of being addicted to it, that masturbation is actually self-sexual-abuse. We abuse ourselves physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually. If we masturbate then it dulls our sexual sensitivity, our moral understandings. It then causes us to seek after it sometimes more voilently carelessly, frequently, and more lustfully (paying no attention to our conscience and soon becoming aquanted with lawlessness). It damages our personality to a huge degree. I've found in my own life of masturbation addiction that I began to loose sight of who I was. I couldn't make sense of what my purpose was or my value. I lost my sanity, my character. Things I once loved and was passionate about were only dull and depressing for the most part. I fell into depression, not knowing who God was and feeling that He, along with the rest of my family (though they didn't know of my struggle) was upset and disappinted in me.
I have learned from my experiance, that instant pleasure isn't going to build us up at all. It won't make you feel any more of a man, it will only lead you to compromise and letting sin enslave you. A real man isn't a slave of something so worhless as masturbation, honestly. It also affects our physical body in many negative ways. Doctors have deemed it "beneficial" but the truth of the matter is that it is NOT healthy whatsoever. Masturbation can cause frequent colds as a resul of lack of seminal fluid. It leads us into depression and mental and emotional confusion and despare. It treats he brain in the same way drugs will. And the more you do it, the more you want it. I never realized how addicted I was unil I tried to break free from the habit. I am going on 17 days right now, and I'd be lying to say it was easy.
Masturbation can also lead to geiving the Holy Spirit and even despising spending time with God or reading the Bible etc.
But Jesus died on the cross with your face set before him. You were the reason he could fight the temptations in His life, and He died for every sin of masturbation you have or ever could commit. Don't ever buy into the lie that you've sinned one too many times or that God has run out of forgiveness for you. His blood will never ever run out, all wehave to do is lay our sins at the cross and turn away and He wi cleanse up from ALL unrighteousness. Having a mindset of running to God rather than running from masturbation has helped me in staying free.
Never give up hope, God is crazy in love with you!!!

LS4God,
I have to say, that I really appreciate your passion for God. It is so wonderful to see a heart committed to God and His purposes. And I feel that our Father smiles down on you.
That said, I want to offer you a small word of encouragement. Take it from someone who has walked with Jesus as Lord far longer than you have been alive. But, please don't take that as condescension. I admire your spirit and fire, and the wisdom and insight you posess. Such things come only from God.
But, lovesick4God, it seems to me that you may focus too much on your failings. We are men. We fail. And, unfortunately, we always will.
Larry King, the TV guy, interviewed Billy Graham not too long ago. Graham said to Larry King at one point that he prayed for forgiveness every day. King was astonished. "What are you praying to have forgiven?" he asked.
Billy Graham, one of God's mighty men, one of His mighty men of valor, one of the truly great men of God, said he prayed because he sinned every day. It may have been pride. It may have been anger. It may have been greed. Or, even, lust. "But not so much anymore," he said with a smile. He was, afterall, almost 80.
You have much to offer in the Kingdom of God, young man. God has given you a warrior's heart. Don't focus on the chinks in your armor. Go forward into battle.
God has a plan for your life. He has wonderful and grand adventures in store for you. So, forgetting what lies behind, and focusing on what lies ahead, press on for the upward call of God.
Please go in peace.

Thanks, I guess I do beat myself up too much. I appreciate your correction and wisdom. I want to look ahead and not behind. You said in the accountability thread that some of us "wait to see how long we can go without falling" I believe it is important not to focus too much on the sin, but I've also learned that if we pretend it isn't there, then it will sneak up behind us. I don't plan on countin the days I go wihout m or my entire life, but for now it's usually a daily struggle, therefore I need daily help and prayer and daily strength from God. I've tried to just walk ahead and ignore that it ever happened, but if we're not totally healed from it then I think that doing so can be very dangerous. But I definatly agree that we need to leave he past behind and press on forward, but we can't be ignorant about it either.
Thank you so much though it was very helpful.

Remember Lovesick4God that Abraham was 99 when he became a father. You have a long way to go if you have such a long life, or longer, God willing.
The argument that masturbation causes insanity is a piece of Victorian misinformation. Depression, yes. Insanity - no! You will not go mad because of it but depression is a possible side-effect of one determined to give it up yet continually failing to do so.
I don't regard myself less a man because I do this. It doesn't define me, although I would be very happy to be free from it and aim to be.
It's also detrimental to our walk with God to focus on one sin to the total exclusion of the others - like pride, greed, envy and unforgiveness. We are going to sin at some time before the end of our lives, even if it's once and one sin will make us unfit for the Kingdom of God. Thanks to God, by His grace and forgiveness, we can approach Him in the Holiest of Holies because of Jesus.
I am not say we should continue sinning. I'm saying we should not expect to be 100 % perfect copies of God which could never happen.

I agree that we're not going to be God-copies on earth, and probably masturbation wouldn't lead to insanity I guess unless possessd by demons or something, but if it gets to a horrible state where we can't control ourselves then it can be easy to loose our minds and our understanding of our identity, I was close to that state, believe me. Bun it's good not to let that sin tell us who we are.
The way I see it, we can go for 100% and get 80%. Try our best but keep in mind that we are imperfect human beings prone to sin and failure, but God's grace is sufficiant for us.

You're doing very well in stopping this and it must be that your faith in God is driving you to succeed. I don't want to discourage you in the effort.
I've had this habit since 12 and now 45 so that is 33 years of no insanity! Plenty of guilt, condemnation, some depression. Only for more than two years from 2006 have I attempted to stop.
In a Chrisian marriage, with a very passionate wife (if God wills it for you), you will find that the problem you mention would be even more present so are you saying that it will give a Christian husband with a passionate wife a weakened constitution because he is losing his sexual cells? As with lactation (breast-feeding), the more stimulation, the more it will produce. An ever-abundant supply until of course you grow so old that age will reduce the capacity for the sexual function.
Praying you'll be successful.

To clarify, I only believe that masturbation could cause damage in the imune system if it is done frequent enough. God made us to be able to have sexual relations with our spouse, but maybe not daily or even several times a day. That is when masturbation becomes seriously unhealthy, when it's done more than once a day, that was my meaning if that makes any sense, I read most of it from scientific studies and information.
And maybe it would never go as far as insanity, and I think it's differant for differant for people, me and my circumstances led me to depression and to being an emotional wreck. Plus the older you are, you'd probably learn to easier cope with the habit and it's results. I think the most damaging thing is mental and spiritual, it degrades us in making us think that we're worthless and when we can't break free we end up feeling enslaved.
Keep going, Guitarist and high-five on the two days, you can do it! If I can do it (not to say it's easy) then you can with the extra years of maturity and knowledge that you have.Last edited on Thu Feb 5th, 2009 07:30 pm by LoveSick4God

Hello Lovesick4God
You're a great encouragement. Keep going. God can do it. You can't.
It's not 2 but 3 days but that's a tiny proportion of an average lifespan, assuming I have the three score years and ten which of course is up to God.

True that only God can do it. Sorry about the slip-up on saying two days. Good job on three days!!!
Keep it up, you and God can do it! That's better.
