“Wives, submit to your husbands…” Ephesians 5:22 stirs up controversy, doesn’t it? “Submit” is a verse that is dangerous when taken out of context; it can be used to attempt to bludgeon, bully, or manipulate the wife into accepting behavior which should never be tolerated, and not just by the husband.
Some pastors and counselors use “submit” to try to sweep their husband’s porn problem or adultery under the rug and force the wife to “grin and bear it.”
